Formula Networks offer a premium SIP service over the public internet.

What is SIP?

Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is a signaling and control protocol for realtime voice and video communications, and is a fundamental component for interoperability between equipment vendors and service providers.

  • SIP manages the setup, transfer, and completion of real-time communications, including media codec transcoding.
  • SIP allows people to communicate using their phone, computer or mobile device over their private network or the public internet, or a combination of both.
  • SIP reduces communications costs, creates efficiencies and opens new opportunities for business communications.

What Are The Benefits?

The biggest benefit of SIP and Voice Over IP (VOIP) is cost. Voice traffic is now routed via the IP/data network to your SIP Service Provider so there are no requirements for traditional ISDN/PSTN connections dedicated to voice at each location. This can save on average €50 per line per month, as well as allowing you to increase the number of lines, add DDIs and expand your system with no additional telco costs.

  • Optimal bandwidth utilization as delivering both voice and data on the same connection.
  • Easy to scale as you grow, with no need to invest in PSTN gateways and additional line cards.
  • Flexible termination of calls to preferred providers with resulting cost reductions.
  • Redundancy flexibility with SIP trunks via multiple IP/data links.

Quality and Reliability?

The two main questions that are asked in relation to SIP are ‘Will voice quality be good enough?’ and ‘Will the phone service be available when I need it?’ and at Formula Networks we can answer 'Yes' to both of those.
While the performance of your SIP connection depends completely on the quality of your internet connection, modern internet connections (eir eFibre, Virgin Media etc.) offer cost effective data connectivity over which to route your voice traffic. While we can't guarantee your local connectivity, our core networks and network partners implement and manage QoS (Quality of Service) and CoS (Class of Service) for SIP traffic. This means that SIP traffic is prioritised and delivery is ensured as far as possible.
